Baton, Dance & Pom Corps

History of Logan Superstars

(Formerly Twirling Cowgirls)

In 1979 The Twirling Cowgirls of Logan was formed and directed by Cindy Kilbarger and Sandy Vaughn. They held their first classes in September of 1979 with 47 students ages 3-13. With parades, recitals and Christmas parties, the weekly lessons helped the Cowgirls attendance grow to over 100 girls. Thanks to the generosity of Ann Kilbarger, classes were moved in 1983 to the "Cowgirl Country Room" on Hunter Street. This still remains our current site for the Logan Superstars.

In 1990 Michele (Farrar) Maniskas, a 10 year veteran of the Cowgirls, became assistant director. Between the years of 1985-1995 the Cowgirls dominated most competitions, bringing home most of the first place trophies. The highlight of the Cowgirls career was in 1993 when they claimed National Pom Pon team of the year. Winning 1st place in their division, and first runner-up to represent the USA in the World Baton Competition in Italy.

From 1993-1995 the corps won consecutive national titles in junior parade corps and in junior and senior small and large dance twirls, winning 6 national titles at the NBTA Nationals held at Notre Dame University. The group also traveled to Detroit, MI to take part in a televised Christmas parade.

From 1989-1993 the Cowgirls won five consecutive high point titles as Twirling Unlimited's International Parade Corp Champions. Over the years the Cowgirls won all of their NBTA and Twirling Unlimited titles with Michele as assistant director and Toni as a member of the Cowgirls junior and senior teams.

When Cindy and Sandy retired in 1996 Michele updated the corps by changing the name to the Logan Superstars. In 1998 Toni returned as a director after a two year leave of absence. To honor the accomplishments of the Cowgirls and the Superstars the city of Logan named them Grand Marshall for the 1998 Annual Christmas Parade. In 2001 Taffie Smith and Teresa Keith joined the Superstars.

One of the Superstars greatest accomplishments was that in 2001 we won the title of NBTA Junior Floor corps champions (with no props). After that the Superstars have won title after title at NBTA and Twirling Unlimited championships in march, floor corps, pom pon, dance and dance twirl.

Cindy and Sandy created much more than a business 28 years ago, they created a family that strives to keep young girls reaching for a common goal through dedication and team work. Along the way the Superstars family has made memories that always last a lifetime, and hope to do the same for the next generation of young ladies.
